Events Coordinator

 

 

INTRODUCTION

 

The Events Coordinator position is essential in the delivery of services by THE REFUGE to homeless and street youth in the Regional Municipality of Durham.  This position is responsible for planning and organizing two special fundraising events for THE REFUGE.  These events are critical to the funding requirements of THE REFUGE as the charity is completely funded through the private sector for operational funding.

 

In addition to planning the summer special events of THE REFUGE, the events coordinator will also be interacting directly with the street and homeless youth that call THE REFUGE their home.  In so doing, the events coordinator will be in a position to encourage positive life changes, support, referrals, encouragement and compassion to these youth.

 

Thus, the events coordinator position is important in assisting homeless and street youth make positive and lasting life changes.

 

AUTHORITY/RESPONSIBILITY:

 

The Events Coordinator reports to the Executive Director of THE REFUGE.  The Events Coordinator is responsible to assist with the operations, planning and implementation of the special events of THE REFUGE.  Additionally, the Events Coordinator is to assist with the carrying out of ministry operatives as defined by the Board of Governance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

 

The Events Coordinator position requires strong leadership qualities, a high degree of self-initiative, willingness to accept accountability, to work with minimal guidance, to project an image of professionalism, to be a positive example to others and to be supportive of the whole THE REFUGE team.

 

 

TERM:

 

The Special Events Coordinator position is a full-time position and may be staffed as a full-time employee, on a contract basis, as a volunteer, or by a university or college placement student as required by the Executive Director.

EVALUATION:

 

The Events Coordinator’s performance is evaluated annually or upon the completion of a placement, upon the detailed job plan and description as established by the Executive Director.

 

RENEWAL DATE AND APPROVAL DATE

 

The Executive Director annually reviews the Event’s Coordinator’s Job Description.  Recommended changes are presented.

 

HEALTH AND SAFETY
