REC. ROOM

Family night occurs every Friday night at The Rec. Room. It is a time to share a meal and enjoy quality time with 'family'.

Statistics Canada has determined that there has been a trend over the past 20 years to families spending less and less time together and more and more time by themselves. On average, family members spent 18% less time with their family in 2005 than they did 20 years ago. Given the fact that joint family activities or time spent together as a family has a tremendous impact on the health of a family and the individuals within that family (Source: BMC Public Health: 23 Nov. 2006) this trend is very disturbing. This is why the Rec. Room plays an important role in the transformation of the youth that attend The Refuge.

Each Rec. Room is spent eating a 'family' meal together from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Some evenings the night has a theme to the meal, such as special food for Mother's Day, Italian night, western night, Valentine's Day. All meals are tasty and nutritious. After the meal there is typically a 'family' activity such as board games, karaoke or a movie night. Overall, The Refuge seeks to provide a 'family' atmosphere where youth are loved, nurtured, encouraged, safe and given a place where they belong and feel the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
